A person overlooks cosplayers while at a convention

Dragon Con is just around the corner. It is time to pack your cosplays, board your flights, and check into your hotels. Whether this is your first Dragon Con or you are a long time veteran, using this survival guide will help you make the most of your Dragon Con weekend.

Stay Hydrated

Between cosplaying your creations, running between panels, and finding your favorite merch at the Vendor Hall, staying hydrated at Dragon Con is essential to maximize your stamina and let you enjoy the con all night long! Drinking enough water helps keep your energy up and your immune system strong. Sipping water throughout the day is just what you need to survive all 5 days of Dragon Con.

Boost Your Immune System

There are many steps you can take to boost your immune system at Dragon Con. You want to make sure you get plenty of rest before getting to the convention, so make sure you pause your cosplay crunching in order to get some sleep! Boost your immune system further with supplementing Vitamin D and C. Eating regular meals, even just a granola bar between panels, will help your body fight off the dreaded Con Crud. Make sure to wash your hands often and wear a mask if you feel comfortable doing so.

Wear Comfy Shoes

Wearing comfortable, broken-in shoes is the most effective way to get the most from Dragon Con! You will be walking, standing in lines, and dancing the night away, so having reliable footwear is going to make your entire weekend more comfortable. Trust me, having blisters and sore feet during Dragon Con can make your con weekend miserable!

Get Plenty of Sleep

Rest and sleep are necessary to making the most of your Dragon Con weekend. Make sure you get plenty of sleep at night, or if you're dancing the night away, take restful naps during the day. Sleep will keep your mind sharp and your body energized for the whole convention.

Bring Ear Plugs

Dragon Con is a 24 hour, all weekend long event, and if you are staying at one of the host hotels, the sound can last all night long. DJs and hotel roommates can make it hard to get good sleep in the evening. Bringing earplugs will make sure you can get some good sleep when you need to rest.

Remember to Eat

Finding nutritious meals during your convention weekend can be a quest all on its own, but making sure you are well fed will keep you going all weekend long. Bring granola bars, non-perishable foods, or get a meal at the food court to make sure your belly is well fueled for all the events.

Hygiene is Important

Showers, deodorant, washing your hands: the holy trinity of convention hygiene. Dragon Con is expecting to get about 80k plus attendees and with many people in attendance, there are bound to be more than a few germs floating around. Con Crud is definitely not something you want to deal with, so make sure you wash your hands frequently and shower every day. Bring hand sanitizer and use it regularly to minimize your contact with germs and viruses.

Using this guide will give you all the tools to make this Dragon Con memorable for the right reasons. These tips will help you enjoy the panels, meetups, Swag-and-Seek hunts, dance parties, and everything else Dragon Con has to offer. So stay hydrated and well-rested so you can spend all weekend doing what you love, celebrating your favorite fandom!
